What were your total untaxed portions of IRA distributions and pensions?

What were your total untaxed portions of IRA distributions and pensions?

This is question 44e on the paper Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form.

The answer to this question might be prefilled with "Transferred from the IRS."

If the answer to this question isn’t prefilled, enter the total amount of the untaxed portions of IRA distributions and pensions you (and if married, your spouse) received in 2018. If the total is a negative amount, enter a zero (0).

If you filed a tax return (or if married, you and your spouse filed a joint tax return), untaxed portions of IRA distributions and pensions is the total amount of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1040-line 4a minus 4b (exclude any rollover amounts from the total).

If you and your spouse filed separate tax returns, subtract line 4b from line 4a on each tax return. Add those two amounts together. Then, subtract all rollover amounts from the total.

If you or you and your spouse will file a federal tax return, estimate the amount that will appear in the lines noted above.

Note: The line number references above are from the IRS tax form, not from the W-2 form.

Round to the nearest dollar and don’t include commas or decimal points.
